On this morning Christmas Canape demonstration at Edinburgh New Town Cookery School in December you arrive for coffee and shortbread and the demonstration will start at 10.30am. The demonstration will last for 2 hours during which you will be shown how to make several festive savoury and sweet canapes which you will taste at the end of the demonstration with a glass of prosecco.

Larousse Gastronomique defines a sauce as "a hot or cold liquid either served with, or used in the cooking of, a dish."It certainly helps to add flavour and enhances the dish. On this one day workshop at The Edinburgh New Town Cookery School we will teach how to make a variety of sauces. We will cover stocks, and how to thicken and enrich sauces whether by reduction, using a roux, adding butter or cream. We will also cover emulsion sauces and some sweet sauces. There will be a break for lunch which you can enjoy in our dining room with a glass of wine.

On this one day Christmas Baking Course we will show you how easy and quick it is to make your own mincemeat and pastry so that you will never use shop bought again, we will be making a christmas cake with a difference - it contains chocolate as well as fruit and we will make Stollen, a European favourite Christmas cake/bread.

These recipes will become reliable standbys. Most of the recipes can be prepared in advance but the others are quick and easy to put together. Come and join us and bring friends so that you can have your own pre- Christmas celebration.
