Gap Year Courses

This course teaches you the basic skills of cookery and will appeal to aspiring chalet cooks or gap year students. The course is suitable for those who have just left school or university; as well as those who wish to develop an understanding of basic cooking skills and techniques.

Practical Cookery Diploma (6 months)
Monday 29th September - Friday 20th March 2026 9:30am - 4pm
This 6 month course is perfect for people wishing to undertake training that will equip them with the knowledge and skills for a career in the food industry. The first term starts by covering basic cooking techniques to give a solid grounding in culinary skills and the second term focuses on developing skills and more advanced techniques.
Thursday 14th August 2025 6pm - 7.30pm Delve into Scotland’s vibrant craft beer scene with knowledgeable host Tom Bruce‑Gardyne, whose 25-year career as an Edinburgh-based drinks writer has covered the renaissance in Scottish brewing.
Friday 15th August 2025 6pm - 7.30pm Discover the art of wine and food pairing in this exclusive event led by Richard Bouglet, Co-Founder of L’Art du Vin and a certified WSET Educator. Richard will guide you through the basic principles of food and wine matching, debunking common myths along the way. It’s a perfect opportunity for wine enthusiasts and food lovers alike to expand their palates and learn from an expert.
